Introduction

What is Web 2.0

Web 2.0 is a term used to describe the newer version of the World Wide Web, through which things like social-networking sites and blogs have developed. Web 2.0 is user-centered, giving us the ability to do or find almost anything we'd like. It also gives people the chance to communicate over long distances without paying hundreds of dollars nor being a computer expert. For example, Facebook has connected people from all over the world, which is something nearly impossible to do otherwise. In fact, this very site is an example: a Wiki connects people who are far apart. The founder, Tim Berners-Lee, himself described it as a "Collaborative Medium". He also called it Read/Write Web.

All of the new advancements to the Internet and technology play a large part in Web 2.0. Uploading plays a major role in Web 2.0 because it allows people to share information. For example, many keep a blog such as Typepad for their personal journal to share what is going on in their life, and as a way of communicating with family and friends who may live far away. People are also able to upload ideas, views and opinions to share with others. This creates discussion with new people and even help or advice. With how much the users can contribute, parenting, cooking and health issues or tips are able to be presented and discussed. Websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Match.com, MySpace and many other social networking sites present the opportunity for people to meet others, share information, and find old friends. These have all had a strong influence on the Internet and changed how many people use the internet. Flickr, Photobucket, and YouTube also have an important part in uploading. Again, people are able to add their contribution of pictures and videos to the online world. Overall, uploading has definitely been a promoting part of making Web 2.0 such an immense new change of how we use the internet.
